It was set up in 1993 to coincide with the then new Government policy of encouraging people with mental illness to live more independent lives within their community. http://www.solacehelp.org.uk/help.html Anyone who has any association with mental illness will know that living in the community can prove very difficult. People around you may seem very hostile, everyday tasks can be stressful, and loneliness can be difficult to cope with. Solace does not have any magical answers to these problems, but what it tries to do is help people cope with them, by offering a supportive listening service. http://www.solacehelp.org.uk/care.html Solace offers a confidential, non-judgemental, listening and support service to all carers. Looking after someone with mental health problems, or indeed with any illness, places a great deal of stress on the carer. If you need to talk through your feelings and emotions with someone then please call us at any time between 7.00pm and 1.00am seven nights a week. No prior experience is required, and our volunteers are from all age groups and all walks of life. We do not offer any medical or counselling advice.
